Welcome to XYE Menu, contained in the file XYEM (pronounced like the second syllable in "enzyme"). XYEM is available in both Macintosh and Windows versions. XYE Menu is the fruit of our struggle to add errorbars to Excel. XYE Menu is aimed at users who wish to create errorbars within the environment of Excel 3.0 or greater, allowing automatic updates of links and charts when a data value is changed, dynamic data exchange and embedded documents. It should also be appealing to those who do not wish to purchase another program to create publishable errorbar graphs when they can do so using Excel. It is our hope Microsoft will incorporate errorbars into the basic framework of Excel, until then we offer XYE Menu. We have endeavored to make XYE Menu fully configurable.

Some salient points,
1) If you don't see the XYE menu when you startup, look for "Add XYE Menu" under the options menu.
2) Don't bother to read the directions unless you have to, run the demos found in the "XYE Help" menu selection and play with the default settings to learn what the program can do. Not that the directions aren't useful, but a picture is worth a thousand words. The demos, while small in code, are large in information.
3) Don't run interactive plots (in expert mode) unless you have to. Interactive runs are slower and difficult on small screens. However, the interactive mode can be invaluable when you need it.
4) If you have multiple graphs with the same number of series of the same length, you need only create one plot. Create it, save it for use as a template, paste in the next set of data and the graph will alter with the new data. Make sure to save each plot with a different name. Check out the biorhythm template example (BTR does not endorse or the belief or disbelief or biorhythms, but they make a great example).
5) XYE Menu does not save changes in defaults from session to session unless you save XYE Menus in the global defaults menu. Once you have found your default preferences for each type of plot, save them once and don't bother to save them again unless it is necessary.
6) If there are features you would like to see implemented in the next version don't hesitate to call us.
7) The help file is contained in the macro file, all other files are extraneous. The Template Example folder and this "XYEM Note" file are useful but not essential.
8) A good reason not to throw away the notes file: Just so you know who we are, BTR software tools is a company dedicated to new ideas and lost causes. If you have an idea for software you would like to see actualized on the Macintosh or Unix, we can do it for you. If you have some problem for which you can not find an expert (e.g. Bruker UNIX) we have folks who specialize in reading archaic manuals and can become experts faster than you thought possible.
9) Upgrades are available at a cost of $3, please indicate the version you are currently using. Beta versions are available upon request. You may only obtain versions for the same computer(s) as the versions you purchased: owning the Windows version does not entitle you to the Macintosh version and vice versa. If you have any registered version of XYE Menu, you may freely upgrade or downgrade to any same computer version of XYE Menu from another user or bbs update utility.
10) This copy of XYEM was bought by mail. This copy has been automatically registered to the name and address to which the disk was shipped. If you wish to reregister send a note with the old name and address indicating the new name and address in which the license for XYEM will be registered. Upgrades are only shipped to registered users. You may include a reregistration request with an upgrade request.
11) If you like to play with the code, indicate your desire for the commented version in your request. While the code is copyrighted, we wish to encourage the use and understanding of Excel and will be happy to increase the understanding of those who are interested enough in the code.
